I am always looking for new and fun ways to engage my son during our homeschool day. It can be difficult at times, as he often likes an activity one week and has no interest the next. I’ve searched for new phonics game, and finally came up with an idea! These Roll It and Read It games have been a game-changer!
One of the best parts about these games is how easy they are to play and the variety of different ways you can play.
This phonics game can be played independently or with 2-5 players. To start the game, a student simply rolls the dice. Then the student chooses a word from that row to read. After the student reads the word correctly, he/she can place a token on that word or mark it off in a colored marker.
Hint: Before playing, I like to laminate my games. Then we can use dry erase markers when playing. It makes it easy to reuse and the games last forever!
There are a variety of ways to play the game. I typically have students lose a turn if they roll a number and every word in that number’s row has been marked. It adds a new level of competition to the game!
Different Ways to Play
Option 1: The game will end when every word on the board has been crossed off. The winner is the player who crossed off the most words.
Option 2: The game ends when a player gets 3, 4, 5, or 6 in a row. Then that player wins.
Option 3: Play without a dice. Students take turns reading words and the first player who gets 3, 4, 5, or 6 in a row wins. This allows students more opportunities to block their opponents.
There are even options for math games! Every set comes with 10-15 games and are 100% editable.
