Welcome to my little piece of the online world.
I’m Katie, a twenty-something year old living in Orlando, Florida. 5 years ago I became a single mom to the most amazing little boy. When I found out I was pregnant, I was shocked and overwhelmed. It wasn’t expected. I had recently found out I was accepted into graduate school for my masters in reading education and made the crazy decision to continue with my enrollment while pregnant.
My pregnancy was easy, but my son’s delivery was not. I experienced an Amniotic Fluid Embolism while giving birth. I don’t want to go into details over his birth here, but maybe I’ll do a blog post one day.
For the past five years, I have taught at a high poverty school in Orlando, Florida. I started out in 2nd grade and was lucky to be able to loop twice with my first group of students. It was a blessing to be able to teach 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade to some of the same students. I stayed in 4th grade as the team leader for an additional year before getting the opportunity to join the leadership team at my school. I’m currently the testing coordinator and instructional coach for grades 2-5.
In 2012 I started my Teachers Pay Teachers store. I found success the first year, and was even able to surpass my teaching income. Life as a single mom got busy. When I graduated with my masters, I took a break from creating resources for TpT to fully enjoy all my extra free time with my son.
While working on the leadership team at my school this year, it has become very clear what I want and need to do with my life. I want to empower teachers all over the world to bring creativity and innovation back into the classrooms. We, as teachers, are part of the best profession in the world and it’s time we bring some positivity back to our career.
